This past July, four-year-old Kerry Rosen had a hole in her heart repaired. A few short years ago, such a procedure would have required open-heart surgery. Her tiny rib cage would have been split open, her heart stopped, a weeks-long recovery would have ensued and a chest-length scar would have marked her for life. But because of advances in minimally invasive surgery, Kerry went into Massachusetts General Hospital for heart surgery on a Wednesday, and by Saturday she was swinging from the monkey bars of her favorite playground.
